After reading Novaseeker’s latest post on escorts, I found a nice little piece on China Expat that uses the art of the short story to expose the longings and unmet needs of the men of our world to explain why there is a demand for such services. It is, indeed, a hard world out there for men, and too many of us trudge on with an empty heart, wandering in a wilderness of sorrow, unaware of what it is that makes us happy. This is why I am beginning to see the Saga of Sanford as a pathetic tragedy as much as anything else.
As for the story, I have no idea who wrote it, but it is nice, short piece that gives one an image upon which to reflect. And despite the fact that I cannot fully accept the author’s position, he certainly gives me some questions to ponder.

John Young’s piece on escorts is brilliant. He is absolutely correct that escorting marks the soft return of polygamy, and its toll on average men is highly destructive.
However, I do not like the Fable of Lao Wang. Implying that laws against prostitution are destructive, that our society is neurotic, hypocritical, and inferior, this is pure folly.
Escorts are parasites on a healthy society, a liberal ephemera existing, like legalized lotteries, only in the shadow of healthy society. For the fact is, if prostituting were legalized/normalized, there would be no profit in it. It is profitable only because the supply is small!

I don’t like the conclusion, either, which is why I ultimately left China. Just for your information, it appears to be an allegory for white men who leave to go to the Orient because they have not found any fulfillment in the West.
However, he makes a point that is hard to deny: men are denied affection in the West, and are driven to unnatural expedients to find it.
If men’s needs were not denied to the extent they are here, this kind of thing would shrivel up and die. This is the lesson I take from it, anyway.

I might have stated this on your blog already, so forgive me if I have, but by what I saw out there in my youth its the 5’s, 6’s, and 7’s that would like the polyamory………………………….but the women who were 8’s, 9’s, and 10’s would NOT like polyamory.
The 5’s, 6’s, and 7’s get to have recreational sex with the top 20% of men out at the bars during their 20’s because those guys will go home with an “O.K” chick several nights a week while he keeps hunting for his princess. These gals get used to sleeping with men who are more attractive to themselves and of course convince themselves that these men would be well-served by cohabitating with them, and wouldn’t mind sharing him with another women——–all the while thinking, “I’ll make him love me by doing it the way he likes it better than her”, etc.
The problem is, that the 8, 9, and 10 females these guys marry and complain to the “O.K.” gals about (becuase they dont worship him like the O.K. gals do) would NOT stand for it, and would leave him for other men.
The only way we could have polyamory is if women’s rights in divorce were -really- destroyed, and men could leave their wives with little/no financial reprecussions to the point that it would actually be unfair to the opposite extreme that they are now.
Ask yourself honestly what really hot babe is going to be cool with her man having a second chick in her home with her own children, competing for his attention……………….few really hot babes would put up with this, they’d leave and get child support for any kids they have/alimony/division of assets, and confidently walk out the door knowing she was still a hot babe and could have plenty of other men.
If we take children away from men entirely, (but still make men pay for them via child support), why would any men really want kids of their own? I dont think they would.
I see no way around this other than making certain marriage contracts legal that stipulate that a man (and woman) could go out a day or two a week and sleep with whoever they chose or something…………………….but even that brings home disease risks. I know its a dream of many men to be able to have a wife at home with his kids, but still get to enjoy sleeping with several women……………………thats what whores are for (including bar whores), but I’d be very suprised if married women of quality could be talked into allowing another one (or two!) women into the home with their children so their guy could have “variety”. I mean having the kids “see it” and all would be a little much for most ladies I’d think.
I know some disagree with that, and thats OK too. The future isn’t written, but is what people make it. It would be suprising if a civilization that resorted to that could last 200 years before collapsing or being taken over.

The story seems to be saying, without realizing it, that legalized prostitution leads to a system that performs the equivalent function to marriage, except that people actually like each other and dating is easier.
Idiotic.
